A Day to Celebrate

For a long time August 2nd was just another day in one of the hottest month’s of the year. It was most likely another humid day that I would be sweating my ass off trying to find a pool or body of water to jump into.

On April 11th, 2006, August 2nd would be forever changed for me. It then became the birthday of the fallen hero that I no longer had the ability of calling on the phone whenever I wanted to. Calling to ask him to pick me up because I didn’t want to take the “Drunk Bus” home, or calling and asking him to please take a look at my car because it was making a funny noise. August 2nd, would now be a day of remembering this sweet, goofy, courageous, gorgeous man- who would have given you the shirt off of his back if it would have helped you. Kevin, who made friends wherever he was, was gone that day in April, but will forever live on in the memories of those who loved him. Now every August 2nd, I have at least one Irish Car Bomb in honor of Kevin, each year getting more and more of those around me to drink one as well. Happy Birthday in Heaven Kev, you will always be missed, but never forgotten.

On August 2nd, 2014, I was given another reason to celebrate the day. My best friend and former roommate married the love of her life. K & R tied the knot on that day, and knowing the gravity of that day for me, K decided to do a car bomb with me. So Happy First Anniversary today K&R and may you have many more beautiful years together.

Now today I celebrate this day for a third reason, the birthday of my boyfriend’s brother. Happy Birthday to you GT! Jamie and I are in Florida so we do not get to celebrate with him, but when he visits next it will definitely be a belated celebration.

August 2nd is no longer just another day of the year for me. This day will always be special to me, no matter where I am, or who I am with. I will always have these special people to celebrate.

Do you have a special way that you celebrate your loved ones? Let me know in the comments.
